What was Epic Notion’s Thoughts on Digital Summit Charlotte?

We’re glad you asked! Take a look at what Alli and Ashlyn each thought of this year’s event:

Alli’s Key Takeaways:

“Wednesday morning’s workshop, 45 Tactics to Take Your Email from Zero to Hero with Michael Barber was, to say the least, thought-provoking. To speak about email marketing for over four hours and keep the audience engaged is a difficult task; however, Michael executed flawlessly. My major takeaways:

  • New research surrounding open rates has shattered old tried-and-true methods, mainly email frequency, time sent and subject line length
  • Be human and build relationships! Don’t be an email-pushing machine
  • Personalization is key. Celebrate the user and use verbiage in your subject line to increase your much-wanted *clicks*

Influencers: Cultivating a Powerful Network for Link Building & Social Media Evangelism with Michelle Stinson Ross gave me a unique peak inside the current practices of building relationships with influencers. Today, universal access to the internet and the power of social media has ushered a new generation of influencers, changing the way we, as marketers, pitch and use their platforms to promote our product and/or service. My major takeaway:

  • How to subtlety use paid social advertising to target and pitch influencers

Everyday Behavioral Science for Conversion Optimization with Brian Massey was informational and surprisingly entertaining. Brian emerged on the stage in a full lab coat and proceeded to explain the importance of perception – not only does wearing a lab coat project confidence, but it also affects how people perceive you as an authority figure. Reading and learning from people’s behavior is what conversion is all about. My major takeaway:

  •  Find success with this simple equation: Promotional Offer + Form. Capture your audience’s attention, then convert them with a landing page designed to draw their attention to a single, desired action.”

Ashlyn’s Key Takeaways

“Digital Summit Charlotte left me feeling energized and excited. I took something valuable from each presentation I attended. On day one, Conquering the Customer Journey with Content Marketing was truly beneficial. Shana Sullivan was relatable, passionate and shared unique ways to brainstorm content topics. Her presentation was backed up by data showing the impact of content marketing, and how to work with clients to create content that exceeds their expectations and gets results.

On the second day of Digital Summit, Carlos Gil’s presentation: How to Hack Facebook’s New Algorithm Change provided me with immediate action items to increase engagement across social media platforms. My key takeaway from Carlos was to serve your audience social content that they can engage with. We no longer live in a social media world where you can blast off links to your site and blog and expect people to see your posts. Ask questions, and when people provide answers react to their comments and respond!

The keynotes were also noteworthy. Scott Dikkers, Founder of The Onion, gave a comical presentation about building your brand. On the second day, Ann Handley gave a presentation packed with valuable information about content and storytelling. Each presenter gave real-world examples and had the audience eager to learn more. A bonus was that I was able to meet Ann Handley and get a signed copy of her book, Everybody Writes!”
